Based in the North East of England, I deliver Commercial Consultancy and Coaching & Mentoring services.
Commercial Consultancy
I will use my broad commercial experience and qualifications to add value to your organisation. This could be in Sales, Marketing and/or Category Management. My approach is to champion your customer and engage with both staff and key stakeholders to break down barriers and deliver success.
My pledge is to leave any organisation in a stronger position than when I joined. I will work with your staff to develop the necessary processes, skills and mindset to move your organisation forward.
Coaching & Mentoring
My passion is to help my clients perform to their full potential, either personally or professionally.
The timeframe of each journey may vary according to your scope and objectives. By reflecting on my own journey, I have identified my own key strengths, and by teaming them with activity areas that give me the most satisfaction, I have mapped out my own path.
Through a structured process, I will help you to own your individual journey and map out your own way forward.
About Me
Most Saturdays I’ll be in our kitchen making something for tea – admittedly not quite Saturday Kitchen!
I enjoy taking photos, I’m still learning the functionality of my Canon 7D. The images in the web site are my own – there’s something challenging about trying to capture that ‘wow’ shot.
I’ve always enjoyed rugby, playing when I was young, coaching and refereeing when I was older and as a season ticket holder, going to see the Newcastle Falcons with my Dad and my mates.
Northern Roots & Values
I was born in North Shields, and after a few years working away in London and Leeds, I’m still based near Newcastle; my wife and I live overlooking the mouth of the Tyne.
Commercial Experience
I’ve had a number of commercial roles, I’ve been Head of Sales, Head of Marketing and a Head of Category working for manufacturers, retailers and more recently in the 3rd sector.
The Power of Coaching
As a volunteer coach with the military charity SSAFA for over 5 years, I’ve seen the benefits of mentoring first-hand. That gave me the inspiration to undertake some personal development – to that end I now have the ILM Level 5 in Coaching and Mentoring (and am very proud to have passed with 96%!).
My Community
I’ve always believed in giving back to the community which has given a lot to me. I was a Trustee of the Greggs Foundation and have undertaken voluntary work with a number of local charities including the Newcastle Falcons Community Foundation and Journey Enterprises.
A Proud Dad
I am extremely proud of my two grown up children, both are embarking on their own, very different journies.
My son has successfully completed his degree with a first and is now is training to be a Chartered Independant Financial Advisor and my daughter is currently study a degree in Adult Nursing.
A Lifelong Dream
In December 2017 I set up The Mayne Consultancy.
For me, it has been a dream to have the opportunity to use my skills and experience to add value to a range of clients operating in different sectors.

Bouncing Back – Head vs Heart!
Following the unprecedented situation over the last few weeks, unsurprisingly, my most recent commissions have been to help customer facing clients prepare for the easing from lockdown and the transition back to the ‘new normal’.
Happy 135th Birthday SSAFA
SSAFA The Armed Forces Charity (formerly known as Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) was created when the Second Expeditionary Force set sail for Egypt in February 1885, Major (later Colonel Sir) James Gildea wrote a letter to The Times appealing for money and volunteers to help the military families that had been left behind at home.
Heal thyself physician
As a long-term mentor with SSAFA The Armed Forces Charity and as a coach I’ve seen first- hand the positive impact that mentoring and coaching can have on an individual. It helps them in so many ways, someone to listen, someone to hold a mirror to where they are, help them identify ways for… help them see the wood from the trees.
